Historical Background |
|
In the occasion of the
new millennium, Cairo University was celebrating the diamond jubilee of the
faculty of science; the first of its kind in the Middle East and Africa.
On these occasions, which rarely coincide, the chemistry department was
organizing its first conference on chemistry (Chem. 01). Now , while we are
preparing for our fourth conference ChemO4, we remember with gratitude Professor Rafei Abu-Eittah , the x-chairman of the chemistry department, who, supported us and on behave of the steering committee Thanks are also due to my friend and college Professor Hamed Eid, Secretary General of Chem01 who shared with us the moments of hope
and suffering until our dream came true. I would like to thank them very much for their support and valuable comments and ideas.

Chem.01
|
Chem. 01
was held from 6-9 March 2000, under the sponsorship of Cairo University to
focus on the pioneering role of the graduates of the department are spread
all over the Arab World conducting chemical research and help developing
industries while protecting the environment.
The main objectives, which set up at Chem. 01 are the major branches of
chemistry, physical, organic, inorganic and analytical are being dealt
with throughout the conference. 40 invited lecturers attended chem. 01
meeting with 17 guests from at least 9 different countries and
nationalities.
|
The objectives
of the conferences were:
1. Recognizing the extent of the
environmental pollution in order to suggest scientific and practical
solutions.
2. Gathering distinguished scientists from Egypt and abroad to review the
achievements and prospective in each and every branch of chemistry.
3. Forming integrated teams of Egyptian and foreign scientists to suggest
and conduct research projects of national and international interest
aiming to put our department align with the research plans in the world.
4. For the first time, Astrochemistry is integrated into a chemistry
conference. Two sessions are dedicated to field of “chemistry in Space” in
cooperation with scientists from NASA (USA), Italy and Japan.
Two workshops will be held during the conference in the fields of Thermal
analysis and NMR spectroscopy to allow young scientists and research
associates to follow recent trends and technology in these fields.

Chem.02
The venue for the Conference was the University of Cairo and the
scientific program would take place during the period from March 4 to
March 7, 2002. The scientific program was organized by a group of the
Chemistry and Astronomy departments, Faculty of Science, Cairo University.
The major branches of chemistry, physical, organic, inorganic and
analytical are being dealt with throughout the conference. The Chem. 02
meeting was attended by 201 participants with 19 guests from at least 15
different countries and nationalities. The scientific program consisted of
43 invited talks, 58 oral contributions on hot topics in different
branches of chemistry, in addition to 76 contributed poster papers. novel
feature of the meeting was the presentation of 4 tutorials on: Chirality
in Organic Chemistry by Prof. H. Duddeck and Prof. E Winterfeldt,
Nanoparticles and Clusters by Prof. M.S. El-Shall, Molecular Biology
Revolution, Facts and Fiction by Prof. Said Goda and Introduction to
Chemometrics by Prof. Kurt Varmuza. In addition, there were two workshops:
one on NMR techniques by Prof. Yehia A. Eibrahim and the other workshop is
on Thermal analysis and mass spectrometry by Prof. M.A. Zayed and Prof.
G.W. Hohne.
